Hakka Passion is a casual, no-frills Hakka-style restaurant tucked inside a quiet commercial plaza on Harwood Avenue in Ajax. It’s the kind of spot that locals turn to when craving Asian-Chinese dishes known for their bold sauces and straightforward flavors. The space itself is modest but clean, with a handful of tables where you get a sense of a steady, unpretentious flow of regulars grabbing dinner or takeout after work.

The menu leans heavily on classic Hakka staples such as crispy beef dry, chicken and shrimp fried rice, and various Manchurian dishes—all served in generous portions that feel suitable for sharing or a hearty solo meal. Dishes typically come out hot and fresh, reflecting a kitchen pace that occasionally slows down when the place gets busy, especially on weeknights. Service is friendly if a bit stretched but attentive, and they’re accommodating with preferences like less salt or spice when requested.

For those who enjoy a mixture of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors, items like chili chicken gravy and garlic fish offer a solid profile, though some dishes like the chili chicken gravy tend toward a mild, brown gravy style rather than fiery heat. The fried snacks, such as chicken pakora and fish pakora, are well-sized, crispy, and often paired with tangy, flavorful dipping sauces, making them popular for starters or casual bites.

Hakka Passion’s atmosphere is straightforward—a small dining area that’s quiet enough to hold conversations without much background noise, fitting for a relaxed meal rather than a social night out. Its location in Ajax, away from the busier dining hubs in Toronto, means parking is easy and the restaurant attracts a steady but manageable crowd, often drawing on families and groups looking for familiar tastes from the Hakka Chinese tradition.

Overall, it’s a practical choice for anyone seeking authentic Hakka cuisine without the fuss. Ideal times to visit are early evenings on weekdays or weekend afternoons when service tends to be quicker. If you’re after a solid plate of chow mein or a bowl of chicken Manchurian soup delivered hot and generously portioned, Hakka Passion delivers that reliably.

Busy for a Thursday night, so i can excuse the slow service, since there were only two front staff. All food came out screaming hot (which i like!) Hakka chow mein was absolutely delicious!! Chicken pakoras were really tasty, and a good size, plus a large amount. The dipping sauce was great too! Chili chicken was good, but I did not like the gravy, tasted too much like simple brown gravy, the kind you might get with roast beef. But it was a good portion, lots of onions, and well prepared. Overall 8/10, mostly on the strength of the noodles. Will definitely be going back for takeout, restaurant is not exactly date-night ready.

We there to order takeout food but instead decided to dine in ! The Hot and Sour Chicken soup was great ! Make sure you ask them to make it less spicy if you can’t handle spice. We ordered medium which was good enough for us !! We also ordered mixed vegetables with chicken. I asked them for less salt , which they accommodated. The portion size is average , I would’ve liked a bit more.

Good food in large quantity for reasonable price, as what one would find typically in notable Hakka restaurants in the Scarborough/ Markham areas. The Manchurian chicken soups was hot, reasonable spicy with large quantities of chicken - and that filled us up half way already. Deep fried shrimp was ok. Lots of dough and the shrimp was pre-cooked. The red sauce that came with it was sweet and sour, and was ok too. Fried rice was amazing. Chilli fish has large quantities of fish that was tasty, but the gravy tasted more like brown gravy than the typical gravy infused with chillies. Has to ask for steamed rice which was free . 10% gratuity is added for dine in. 5% discount for cash orders. The 2 Asian folks in the front were really friendly and attentive. We will definitely return and try other dishes there. 5 star for the overall experience. 4 stara for the food itself.

2024 November 3.5 Chicken Manchurian soup $8.95 Soup was good and as expected with unique hints of spicy flavors. Hakka chow mein - chicken $10.75 Very good flavors. Got that saute flavors you'd expect. Worth getting at this price. Fish Pakora $14.50 Light and crispy. Not enough spices, but ok. Crispy beef $13.95 Not bad. Crispy as it says. A bit spicy. A bit salty, but not too much. Great paired with rice. Overall, not bad. Price to food portions to taste, if you're craving Hakka, not a bad option.

One of the best hakka restaurants in the East. I enjoyed hakka food after a very long time. Every dish we ordered was delicious. It is located in a quiet commercial plaza in Ajax. Has lots of free parking. It is a small restaurant but service is very very good. Washrooms were very clean. Highly recommend it.
